Is it normal to have a cold for over 3 weeks?

I've had a cold for 3 weeks now. At first it was the sneezing, runny nose, sore throat, and coughing. Now it's mainly just the cough, but it's been really bad for the past week. It's like a hacking cough, and every time I exhale my lungs and throat itch and I have to cough.

I once had the flu for alittle over a month because my boss wouldn't let me take 4 days off to rest like the doctor said. I ended up developing a lung infection, with symptoms very similar to yours, especially the cough complete with itchy throat and chest.

I agree with the other posters, quit smoking if you do, and go back to the doctor. You could do some serious damage to your respiratory system if you don't get this problem sorted out. I ended up on a fuck load of pills everyday to sort my problem out and it was not fun at all. Get help buddy.

Doesn't sound normal, but it could be. However, to be on the safe side, drink an appropriate amount of water, get plenty of sleep and fresh air until you can see a doctor. Also, if they diagnose you with something that sounds serious and requires you to take medicine, get a second, and even a third opinion, because sadly, doctors can misdiagnose you and make matters worse sometimes.
