Iin: to hate something just because everyone else loves it?

I have a big problem with this. Ever since I was young, if a good majority of people liked something, i.e. Peach rings, then I would automatically hate them. But! If everybody hated Peach rings, I would go on the other side and be like "Hey, they're actually pretty good."
So basically when I find out a lot of people like something, like a movie or a song, then I'll hate it. And vice versa.
Is anyone else the same way? I have been told that I am quite spiteful, so that could definitely have something to do with it.
Is it normal to hate something simply because everyone else loves it?...and vice versa.

    Depends

I understand it with music, because sometimes a song is so overplayed and overexposed that you just get sick of hearing it.

Movies, fashion and books though, not so much. Those don't get rammed down your throat as hard as music does, you have more room to select what you like as an individual.

I'm definitely like this too. Especially with music. I'm pretty sure if I listened to Radiohead (post ok computer), Muse, Incubus were one too - maybe I would like them. But I just can't get into them, prolly because everyone else does, and also the songs I've heard don't grow on me.
Basically, if everyone hated those bands, there's definitely more chance I would like them and listen to them....

Tealights said it; "contrarian". I was like that as a kid too. Probably annoying and not normal.
I try not to be like that now though in most areas. But sometimes it's good to stick up for certain things because nobody else will, and other people follow the grain too much. It's important to have someone to go against the grain sometimes.

    You're a contrarian.

It's exhausting to change your opinion so often though. You might find yourself enjoying things in secret because of this

Sounds useless and exhausting. What do you possibly gain from it other than appearing childishly contrary?

Are you a devil's advocate too?

For the sake of your own serenity try to let what others like and dislike go in one ear and out the other.
