Is it normal to hate small talk

I hate when you are talking to someone and they have NOTHING to talk about they talk about shoes, TV, or what the weather is like I don't care about that stuff tell me about what you like, what you don't like, what you think about the world, and what you think about you I don't care about all the pretty sparkles that make your exterior

You're being a little crazy 3
I don't mind 10
I hate it too 21
I don't like it 13
I love talking about shoes! What's wrong with shoes!? 2

It's a necessary evil in communication, and does actually serve an important purpose - but I do sometimes find it irritating. Sometimes it's better to say nothing at all, than something of little to no value.

Talking about the weather for us can be a life and death discussion, if you live on a boat. Did you hear about the four sailors who are dead in La Paz harbor — where 22 boats were driven ashore by winds to 80 knots from hurricane Odile? Small talk big consequences.

I have few interests in weather begin the story with a bunch guys got in a hurricane then you have my interest but if you say to me 'whoa it's really sunny' I'll have to say 'yeah' what do you say to that! It's like saying okay or putting emogis in a text!

  • I just leave them to chatter it gets to a point where my brain feels like it's dying some days when I have to listen to it

I utterly hate it. I don't see it having any worth at all. Some people say that it's necessary for starting up a conversation, no, just no. Why make conversation on something you actually give no shits about. Here's the worst part, if you give a honest answer, people have no idea what to do. Don't greet people with "what's up", "how's it going" cause u don't care, don't ask, just nod or say hi move along.

"Open you mouth only if what you say is more beautiful than silence"

For people who argue that small talk is needed for making conversation, no, not really. Though this depends on people's definition of small talk. Making small talk is exchanging inconsequential information, making conversation is an exchange of interesting information.

Commenting on weather makes no sense, I'm right here, experiencing the exact same weather. Unless you want to discuss the impending northern air fronts that may or may not bring snow next weekend depending on the moisture levels generated by the recent warm air front from the east coast, don't comment/ask.

In that regard, if that certain person actually has legitimate interest in the topic, that's just maing conversation.

god i went on a rant.

I've always liked talking about the weather and don't really consider it small talk.

But small talk doesn't bother me. I enjoy talking to people.

Psh, not cold at all! Just the perfect temperature to wear a shirt if you're too warm or a jumper if you're a little chilly :D I just realised this is small talk on a post about hating small talk... Ironic.

"hi how are you?" is triggering me way more than your example.

Even worse is people who don't realize that "how are you" is a rhetorical question...no, mr. Postman, I do not care what you ate for breakfast or about your sick cat or the exact time and color of your last bowel movement.

Hhahahah! basically I hate it when people I barely know tries to make small-talk. If a close friend is genuinely curious about how I am doing- fine.

But if strangers wishes to approach me, be fucking creative.

If they can make conversations, great!

I just hate it when they can't and sadly I attract a lot of randoms that really want to talk to me without really having anything to say.
