I feel like people who are optimistic are trying to cover their own insecurities or project a false image, or they have unrealistic expectations, or they are ignorant or oblivious to the cruel harsh reality of the outside world.

    Let's all run around all depressed and morose like the OP. Sounds like a wonderful way to live our lives. And if our lives are as miserable as his, then why bother even getting out of bed? Hell, why breathe?

            Honestly, I've not the interest in spending long hours on a therapist's couch to figure it out. But as a quick guess, I'd say it's because I'm a guy.
