Is it normal to hate it when you're the only one keeping a conversation going?

I really hate it when I'm with a group of friends and/or chatting with other people, and nobody talks unless I think of a topic or throw something out. Is this normal and does anyone else face this problem?

Had a girlfriend like that. Only stayed with her because I'm only slightly less socially retarded than her and was just happy to have a girl.

It happens to me sometimes but it doesn't bother me until it happens with the same people over and over again.

lol, that's what I was gonna say! When this person leaves the room, everybody probably says "damn, I thought she'd NEVER shut up". I know that from experience to be true.

I normally walk away, whoever the person is. I just can't stand this shit.

I can't keep a conversation going, so the other person has to talk, or else it will get quiet. It's not that I'm trying to be rude, I'm just not good at that lol. Whenever I try to keep a conversation going by myself, I just end up getting embarrassed, especially if I have to repeat myself because I don't know if the other person either didn't hear me, or they don't care.

Yeah, I've been in a couple of situations where there is a group of people, there's awkward silence, people comment on the awkward silence which make things more awkward, and it's me who ends up picking the end up and starting a new conversation. It can be irritating, but it's usually less mind numbing than waiting for someone else (especially if you're with people who can't think of anything to say).

It suggests the group aren't that close. The people you're closest to tend to be comfortable with periods of silence, it feels natural, and there's a fluid conversation because you're interested in similar things and know about each other.

ha ha. Silence can be golden but some people are too shy and cant think of anything to say. We need both sides of this situation. Good for you, just please make it an interesting topic. I, for one, do not want another conversation about some celebrity.
