Is it normal to hate christmas?

A guy I know said he hates Christmas. While I do, too, it's because I get lonely around this time. He, however, always seems cheerful: he's sociable and the opposite of me...

I can't ask him, before anyone says to do so.

Christmas has Pagan Roots. It is a Pagan holiday. Perhaps, this is the reason why he hates it? Another reason could be how in modern times it has become very materialistic. And yet another could be, the fact that parents lie to their children about an omnipotent pseudo deity called, Santa Claus. Why don't you ask him?

I hate it too, but probably not for the same reason. In fact, it would probably be one of my favorite holidays if I didn't work in retail.

I hate Christmas adverts that come up to a month before Christmas as well as it being disputed that Jesus Christ was actually born on that day. Its a fact he wasn't so why the pretence? I agree with the above comments of it becoming a day celebrated materially and businesses do use it to their advantage to get us into more debt.

I hate how X-mas has become so commercialized. But I love the idea of getting together with family and friends one special day each year, and X-mas seems as good a day as any.
Every year at this time I hope that this year will be different, and that human beings have learned to live together in peace and harmony, and each year the human race lets me down.

Working in retail kind of kills the Christmas spirit. In fact it can make one slightly homicidal..."Merry F***Ing Christmas now go fall off a cliff!".

        • OK, but what difference does it make to you what businesses are doing?

OK, let me ask you a question. How does greed benifit peace on earth and good will towards man?

Sorry, that's what I meant. I've been watching this cartoon with my cousin. It's called "Teen Titans Go!" and there's this episode called 'Second Christmas'. The characters call this dude the "Second Christmas grouch", so I got used to it. Hehe...

Understandable. I just didn't know if you were talking about Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street.

I hate it because it's all about spend spend spend money on stuff people don't need or even want most of the time, just so you don't feel guilty for not giving gifts.

I'd ignore it completely if I didn't have grandkids. A couple of times years ago I did ignore it, I got the family together for Solstice and then went bush & camped away from anything to do with xmas - it was great!
