Is it normal to go from thinking music tastes are important to not caring??

Hiya,

When I was younger a person’s music taste was EVERYTHING. It was vitally important. I came into contact with some strange people, and I don’t mean “strange” in a good way. I basically ignored decent people because they didn't like the same stuff as I did. I had a bunch of friends who all loved the same stuff as me, and only that one type, but we drifted apart and now I no longer see them.

My music tastes have totally changed. I now have no favourite band or singer. I don’t care whether people like the same stuff as me or not; I know I like it and that's all that matters. I’m never going to change their minds so I don’t see the point in trying. I think bringing a band’s name into every conversation makes you look like you’re not sure you actually like them.

I still like knowing what people like, but it’s not so important anymore.

Oh my gosh, I'm going through the same thing. Now i'll just think "Oh you like this band? Thats cool, if it makes you happy" My family acts like I got a lobotomy sonce my reputation was as a music critic.
