I have a black cat named Malcolm and everyone affectionately refers to him in racist terms (my grandmother calls him "Lil Nig," for instance, while my mother calls him "Mr. Jigginbottom"). Is it normal?
I'd bet that the damn cat doesn't give a shit, but anybody who overhears you is going to think you all are dumb, ignorant bigots.
There's a guy in my neighborhood with a black dog named Buckwheat. I find that amusing.

When I was living in an apartment complex in Montgomery, Alabama some of our neighbors named their black cat Urkel. I honestly don't think Malcolm is a bad name in and of itself. The other nicknames are stupid and kinda racist.
I have a black cat named, "NEGRO" in Spanish. We also call him nigger, nigglet, shit, caca and pussy.
He mostly responds to "nigger".
