Is it normal to get excited?

When at the college cafeteria I would always bring up things that fascinate me and try to discuss them with the others at the table, only to receive an almost universal (so what? that's not impressive or interesting). I know everyone has different interests but it seems nothing I find amazing gives even the slightest bit of excitement to my friends. I find people who just said screw it, and started their own country, and got away with it! The man Jeremiah Heaton who claimed the last bit of unclaimed land on earth to make his daughter a real princess for her birthday. Scientists who splice spider genes into a goat to get it to produce goat web a fabric stronger than steel. A man in Mexico who built his own island, buy collecting floating garbage, pouring sand and planting mangroves.

Personally I find these all fascinating, but no one else seems to, even my girlfriend couldn't care less.
Is it Normal for me to find these things so fascinating.

      that last unclaimed piece of land was Bir Tawil, a 795 sq mile chunk of desert landlocked in between Egypt and Sudan.

    I'm with you. I find similar interesting things and when I bring them up to talk about with my coworkers at break time at work I get similar disinterested responses. Sometimes I wonder why I bother.
    They'd rather talk about some arrogant ball player that gets paid millions of dollars a year to try to hit a ball with a stick, or run down the field with a lopsided ball while wearing macho colored tights and a space helmet.
