Is it normal to get annoyed when people call rasta colors "bob marley colors"

I just get really annoyed when people say "Bob Marley colors" when referring to Rasta colors (red, green, yellow). I feel like they're trying too hard. I don't really know what it is actually! It's just so annoying. I understand the colors can be associated with Bob Marley because he was Rastafarian, but they are RASTA colors, not his colors. Right? Lol

    Yeah, it's a bit ignorant. Like calling the stars and stripes the John Wayne Flag or the Union Jack the Mr. Bean Flag.

    • Right! Especially this one girl who actually went as far as painting her room Rasta colors. And she got done and showed me a picture, and said "I painted my room Bob Marley colors!"...
      And I was thinking... If you don't even know what the colors are, you shouldn't have your room painted that way. Damn. lol

        THAT'S a little unfair. If she likes the colors, she likes the colors. I like the colors Black and Silver, I should be able to paint my car that even if I am not a Raiders fan =/ What the colors may mean to you may not mean the same to someone else.

        • Well she painted them because she considers them "stoner" colors, because of Bob Marley. Which really doesn't justify anything. She wouldn't like the colors so much if they weren't associated that way. The fact that she doesn't even know what the colors actually are, or why they are associated with Bob Marley just makes her look ignorant in my opinion.

    The flag most likely to have originated from the Ghadar Party flag which was founded in 1913 before Haile Selassie came to rule. The Ghadar Party was a freedom movement against British Rule.

    It's the color of the Ethiopian flag!!!!!!!!
    IT'S THE ETHIOPIAN FLAG COLORS!!!!!!!

    Rastafarians believe that Ethiopia is the land where the everything has begun. Moreover the capital of Zion (the perfect world) would be in Ethiopia if we follow what was proclaimed by Selassi I. Like Christians want to be in paradise with God, Rastafarians want to be in Zion. They wear these colors because

    (1) Selassi I, their Almighty was Ethiopian
    (2) The New Jerusalem shall be in Ethiopia where they all shall return.

    Yea it can be annoying. I do listen to Reggae and Rocksteady music yet I never wear the Rasta colors. I see other people wearing the colors and I would bet they don't know anything about Reggae...lol I don't really care though.

    Is that like calling red white and green "Tony Soprano colors"?

    I knew what Rasta was before I knew who Bob Marley was.
    Unfortunately, I dated a Rastafarian/Atheist (wtf?) who repeated the words "Jah Rastafari!" on a regular basis and played the same fucking music all of the time. It annoyed me so damned badly that whenever I look at the Rasta colors, I think of his bullshit. I want to call them "Crazy, self-deluded ex-Boyfriend colors".

    Shit =/
