Is it normal to get a big surge of energy when your body is about to give out

Have you ever been doing something like running, swimming or rollerskating, etc and you're pushing yourself really hard and you either collapse from exhaustion, fall or you start having trouble breathing. You feel really weak and stuff and then you get this huge surge of energy and start pushing yourself even harder and everything just kinda falls away, like tunnel vision or something. Has that ever happened to any of you guys?

Yeah that always ended up happening to me at the end of a race for cross country. I'd be so tired but at the end I'd go nuts, my body pretty much went numb and I ran my ass off!

The second wind is caused by an adrenaline rush.
