Is it normal to forget something like this?

I was just talking to my mom today and she got some past hospital bills in the mail that she apparently didn't pay. She mentioned that based on the date off the visits it could be this certain incident when she went to the hospital. I didn't know what she was referring to so I asked her what she meant and she said it might have been from when she tried to commit suicide. Apparently it was this huge ordeal and she had been hospitalized and a nurse who worked at the hospital had told her daughter, who went to the same school as my sister and I, all about it. Of course she then told everyone at school about my mom trying to kill herself.
I don't remember this happening. I vaguely remember hearing about this girl's mom being fired for violating patient confidentiality but that's it. I don't know how I forgot about my own mom trying to kill herself. I was 6 years old at the time, it just seems like I should remember.
Is this normal?

    Omg this is completely normal!!!!! We rarely remember anything from that age, let alone something as traumatic as this, that would not even feel as significant in the same way then as it does now. Don't worry!!!

    That's one of the hard things in life for a 6 year old to deal with. At that point a 6 yr old over time would repress the memories. As like how sexual abuse victims try and put the memories in the back or out of their mind.
