Is it normal to forget how to hug?
I have not hugged anyone in years and I just realized I have forgotten how to. Which arm goes where? How do I prevent my arms from colliding with the other persons arms?

Raise our arms till they are sticking out horizontally at a 90 degree angle to your body. Widen or narrow them depending on the girth of the intended target.
Walk forward with arms outstretched until your chests are touching, then bend arms at elbows until you have the target fully enclosed in your grip. Rest your chin on the targets shoulders (whichever one you prefer).
Squeeze gently (and if you're feeling adventurous, lift the target mid hug and spin them around - this technique may not be suitable for funerals or other formal gatherings) but not TOO gently.
Tap target 3 times on back before letting go, and telling them how good it it to see them.
Wait for the other person to initiate then decide where to put yours arms and head. Maybe give them a wee squeeze. If you initiate the hug, they'll know what to do.
Stop worrying about it: when there's someone who wants your hugs you won't need to think about it. That's sad that you haven't hugged anyone in years and I hope you find someone huggable very soon.
