Is it normal to find it difficult to read due to excess mental stimulation?

I have failed several times to make it through the works of certain authors, due to what appears to be too much mental stimulation occurring. Whenever I reach that pivotal point in which the stimulation hitherto experienced can no longer be contained (or so I thus perceive it), I am prone to scratching my scalp, pacing, rocking, clicking, and wrist flailing. While I am forced to regard the previous behaviors as perhaps bizarre, I am still left pondering whether or not it is normal for one to feel such blissful yet deleterious sensations when engaging in mentally stimulating activities.

I think this is normal, though the pacing, rocking, clicking and wrist flailing is generally associated with autism. If I'm mentally overstimulated I tend to just shut down and stare blankly at the TV for a good 3 hours.

I was just mentally overstimulated reading that.

I get dizzy and overwhelmed at art museums from over stimulation.
Take a break. Digest. Reflect. Return to the works.
    Enjoy!
