Is it normal to feel this way while talking in english as in my 2nd language ?

I'm shy and not really confident about myself and it's hard to talk in my first language to people that I don't know well. But when I talk in English to people, I become confident and it's easy to talk to them. It feels like those people are not real and it's only a dream, and who cares what they think about my accent and fails I make while talking - it's only a dream and it will end soon. I feel this way only when I talk in English which is my second language. Is that normal?

I think it's normal and I think a lot of people have this to some extent, but a lot of people just don't realize it.

especially when you are relatively skilled at speaking english it is easy to 'hide' behind the fact that you are not speaking in your native tongue when interacting by applying proper sentence structure and a decent vocabulary.

It's normal. I'm quite the opposite. English is my second language as well, but I honestly despise how I speak it.
