Is it normal to feel really sad randomly after the death of a loved one?

My grandpa died eight months ago, but yet, out of nowhere, i feel extremely sad and just break down. I was very close to him and saw him on a daily basis. Sometimes it feels just like the day after he died. Also this is the first time I've told anyone how I feel about this.

We all grieve in different ways, so it's normal and natural.

I don't think that anyone ever truly "overcomes" the death of a loved one. Hopefully over time you will come to terms with your loss and that good memories of him will overshadow the sorrow that you feel. Your grandfather was a lucky man because of you. So many people die unloved and discarded.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. My grandpa died in October, I feel the same way. I'll be doing something unrelated and totally banal, then suddenly I'll be thinking about him and start to cry. Like right now. I miss him. :'(

I think a good way to make you feel better is to talk to someone or even type something on this site. After I typed this I've been feeling like i just lifted a weight off my chest. I'm sorry for your loss as well.

Sometimes it takes a while for things like that to register. I am very sorry about your loss, it sucks to lose somebody so close to you :(
