Is it normal to feel no empathy for the other person?

I watch the show House M.D. a lot and I love it. Unconsciously I've become like the main character, who has shown to have no feelings for others. This was proved when my brother broke his leg in a cycling accident, instead of saying stuff like, "Hey dude, it'll be alright" and stuff I only looked at the wound took a couple of pictures and posted them on Facebook.
I got quite the scoldings and when my mom was shouting at me I started laughing. She wants me to see a shrink, I say I don't need one, do I?
Is it in any way normal?

Does your life suck so badly that you have to emulate a fictional character from a TV show? And not just any ass hole. The king of assholes.

Lacking empathy is one thing - It's the inability to understand other people's emotions or "put yourself in their shoes".

Being a jerk is a different matter - it's when you know someone is hurting but you choose to kick them while they're down instead of helping them.

House understands people very well, he just chooses to be a jerk.

    Quit being a jerk.
