Is it normal to feel like i'm about to have a seizure from a hangover

I'm not an alcoholic, at least not physically. This happens to me after one night of heavy drinking, especially hard liquor.

Basically, I get full body shakes and twitches, and sometimes feel an electric shock sensation in my head. If you've ever been on an SSRI antidepressant, like Zoloft or Paxil, you might have experienced this as a side effect or withdrawal symptom.

I've never had a seizure, but the weird body sensations make me feel like I'm going to.

do you have, like, rum and cokes? long islands? vodka & crans? I ask bcuz these drinks all have HFCS in them.. THAT is a bad poison on top of the alcohol. The doctor won't tell you this necessarily, and all of different people's tolerances are different, so maybe you'll have a problem your buddies won't have, but if this usually happens, try having hard liquor w/o the hfcs and you can figure out yourself any connection.

My roommate was an epileptic and his seizures got way way worse whenever he'd drink. Next morning he'd wake up seizing and I'd have to go make sure he didn't bite his tongue off and drown in his own blood.

The day after a night of heavy drinking is usually a strange day, physically.

Alcohol is a poison which works by sedating your body. Your body's natural defence against this sedation is to release chemicals to keep you awake. When the alcohol were's off those chemicals are still working to keep you awake and alert, without the sedative effect of the alcohol counteracting these chemicals you start to suffer side effects like anxiety, muscle tension and delirium tremens (DTs, blue shakes, barrel fever). It is possible to suffer a seizure during alcohol withdrawal but that usually only happens to people who are alcohol dependent.

So what should you do? A: Stop drinking alcohol and enjoy life.

    • That's what I've always figured. Most drugs have a rebound effect. But alcohol is the only drug I use enough to get that effect, so I wasn't sure if this was normal or not.

I definitely don't drink enough to be at a serious risk of the DTs.
