Is it normal to feel irritated when malaysians are considered as all black?

Some of Europeans thinks that Malays were all black and this made me feel upset and anguished a bit.
Malaysians is not black.I mean, not all of them are black. Malay peoples who live in the east of Malaysia were almost all of them had white/fair skin (because some of eastern malays married with swedish, american and chinese, so their child born in mix blooded. The one who had dark skin is the hardworking one and always exposed themself to sunlight).Maybe most of Europeans who had that point of view is never having tourism to Malaysia yet.Is it normal to feel this irritated?

Most Europeans don't think Malays are black, speaking on behalf of most europeans.

Anyway, black is a rough description. We tend to use it to refer to those who appear Afro-Caribbean i.e. of African or Caribbean (indirectly African) ancestry who conform to certain physical characteristics. But anybody could be described as black if they look enough like the black stereotype (what was previously referred to as negroid by some anthropologists).

So sometimes people who aren't of recent Afro-Caribbean ancestry look like they are, and end up being called black. Aboriginal Australians for example, and Negrito groups, like the Semang (as sega31098 mentioned), may be described as black. It usually means nothing, it's just a broad description, as broad as white.

Many Europeans assume all Malaysians are of asian appearance (what was previously called mongoloid by some anthropologists). They assume they look like the lighter-skinned Chinese. Many are unaware of the darker skinned Negrito populations. So I'd say the assumption is, for the most part, the reverse of what you think Europeans think.

Out of curiosity, why does it make you "upset and anguished a bit"?

The "upset and anguished a bit" could be because the OP is of Malaysian descent and doesn't want to be associated with Africans.

And just what's wrong with having dark skin? If anything it's not Europeans who call Malaysians/Desi people black, but they themselves. Having been married to a desi man with some relatives who live in Malaysia I must say I found it sickening how much they liked my "fair" skin (I'm mixed) and how the women went on and on about the vicco tumeric and all this skin whitening products. Black skin means hard work and that should be perceived as a GOOD THING! For me black skin is beautiful and it's racist and bigotry to associate skin color with class!

Obviously these Europeans never met a real nigga before.

personally I'm as honkey as they come but my best buddy is black and I live in a predominately black neighborhood.

I've met a few Malaysians. short little brown Asians with a real good taste in food. black people whoop my ass for looking at them the wrong way. I bet a Malaysian would have trouble even looking in my general direction because I'm so ginormous.

so hell no you guys are not niggas until you can kick my ass.

I knew that a lot of Malaysians had darker skin but I had no idea that some people consider them to be African. The archipelago is in the Southeast of Asia and also in the area for Oceania. So, if anything, they should be considered Asian/Oceanian.
