Is it normal to feel guilty about different political views than your parents?

I was raised to have very conservative views. My family is pro death penalty, worships the military and hates public education, unions, gay people, etc. As I got older, I came to be very liberal and reject most of my family's views. I feel good about this 90% of the time, but whenever my family brings it up, I feel guilty for rejecting the beliefs and values I was raised with.

Another odd thing: I'm older (mid-30s). When I was in college I was a moderate, and I even considered myself to be somewhat conservative in my mid-late twenties. I've become more liberal with age, which sort of seems to be the opposite of what most people do. Is this normal? And is it normal to feel guilty when my family brings it up?

Guilt is like a rocking horse; it doesn't get you anywhere.
At your age this is a life experience decision, not just rebellion, so I wouldn't worry too much. Making your own decisions is the nice thing about being an adult.
