Is it normal to feel deep sadness for the self-centered trend going on?

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed how rude, inconsiderate, self-centered and egotistical people are lately? It deeply saddens me because it seems like there are a lot more rude people than nice people. Very few people care about other people, and it seems to be getting worse. People think it's cool to be rude and it isn't. Am I tripping too hard on this or is it also upsetting to someone else? Any advice on how to not be so negatively affected by rude people?

The state I live in has gotten so bad. Shopping malls people bump into you and don't say excuse me. Or some simple thing like walking. Suppose to walk on the right, right? Well today I almost got run over by someone who refused to move to the right. I stood my ground because this happens all the time (I'm tired of always being the courtious one). She bumped into me and gave me a look while chatting on her phone. No one ever smiles back. I'm tired of being glared at when I smile at people. I don't want to be like them. It does seem that most people are very into themselves and feel entitled to do or say or receive what they dam well want.

Oh my god, I know EXACTLY what you're talking about and I absolutely HATE it. Try to watch MTV for more than an hour, I can't stand it.

I blame the parents for raising these rude spoilt brats. It seems to me that there are no consequences for bad behaviour or bad manners. Too many parents focus on their own lives / careers thinking they can have it all but we, and society, are paying for their selfishness and stupidity. No matter how much money they throw at their kids they are not raising worthy members of society.

Then we have kids having kids! What do they know about bringing up children! I swear I'm telling the truth... I watched a TV programme about kids' who couldn't speak coherently. They filmed the kids at home, to find them plonked in front of the TV while mom sat with her latest bf. They told one mom to get involved with the child and what did the mom say ...? I swear she said, "Nobody told me I had to talk to her." Duh

Maybe if more parents turned off the TV, stopped getting drunk or high and spent some time talking to their kids each day, the kids would learn to respect their parents and the rest of society too!

    I completely agree with you!

Most people think they are everything, that they are better and that the rest can die.

It's especially bad with handicapped people, the way most people treat handicapped people is just awful, and I can know, just check my story and you'll see why.

It's normal but not healthy. Look into methods to cope with your sadness: meditation, yoga, exercise, doing things you like, helping other people

things haven't always been this way, and i completely understand where your coming from. my two best friends are the coolest, sweetest, funniest people i know. but when they get around other people, the only word i can describe for them is "bitch". its not cute, it's not funny. it just makes people look UGLY. and I'm sick of it too.

This isn't a trend, things have always been this way.

  • Yes. Ignore them. And be among the proud and needed numbers who are not ignorant, rude, stupid, belligerent ... in other words - be among the decent persons of this earth - and you will find many, many friends...
