Is it normal to feel bad about not giving a christmas gift to a friend?

I have been wanting to get something for a friend of mine for Christmas. Nothing too expensive or fancy, just something that shows her how much I care and how much she means to me. I know she likes dragons, so I've been trying to find something related to that, like a stuffed dragon toy, or maybe a painting of a dragon. I did tell her that I've been trying to find something for her for Christmas, but she says its okay if I don't get her anything. Not sure if she really meant it or not, but I can't help but feel bad if I don't get her anything.

I could be wrong, but I think just telling her that you value her existence would be a much better and meaningful gift than some symbolic dragon.

      Come on!!

      OP: "I value your existence"
Friend: "Clearly not enough to get me a fricken present!!"

According to the post she said that she doesn't care about getting anything. Honestly if you really want to get her something I think a cheap toy dragon would be fine, even if you couldn't find anything, I think just the thought is fine.

That's what they all say!! The friend will be expecting something now because OP mentioned she was looking for a present. The friend may now have gotten OP something too... but yes i agree, even something small would be fine.

You could always make her something, like paint a picture or something. Even if its really crap, it'll still be nice because you did it and its meaningful like that.

I was actually thinking of drawing a picture of her. Since I love drawing cartoon characters, I thought I'd try drawing a picture of her in anime form. I just took one of her facebook pics and recreated it by sketching it out and coloring it on photoshop. She always said that she loves my artwork, so hopefully she'll love the artwork I made for her.

That's really nice. I hope it was flattering! She'll like it I'm sure, that's a nice gift.

Well I gave her the drawing when I saw her last wednesday. I know it was a bit early but I was too excited and really wanted to give it to her. She liked it a lot. She even texted me yesterday saying that her other friends have seen the drawing and they all really like it. In return, she gave me a Christmas card with $30 in it. In the card she wrote down how I can use that money to buy myself a Godzilla toy since she knows how much I like Godzilla. She said she was trying to look for a Godzilla toy but could not find one.

Maybe you could go to a book store and find a little book about friendship that describes your friendship.
Thank you for this post. I have the same problem with my friend that I have known since 2D grade.
