Is it normal to feel a different kind of jealousy

I don't really know what jealousy is. I will admit to wanting something someone else has, but I won't be bitter about the fact that they have it. For instance, if somebody is in a relationship with the person I like, I'm not going to be hostile towards them; it is not their fault. I'll of course want to be them, but I won't (intentionally) take things out on them.

Jealousy is like riding a hobby horse; a lot of activity but it doesn't get one anywhere.

To me, that's what jealousy is. It's simply being envious - feeling discontent or longing for what someone else has. Everyone gets jealous and it can be hard to stop it when it happens, but if you sit and work through your thoughts and conjure a plan of action (usually just talking about it helps) it can be resolved. When hostility and bitterness are involved it crosses the border into being spiteful, which is a whole different thing.

This is my personal opinion so I may be wrong about what being jealous actually is. If anyone thinks I've defined it poorly or just entirely wrong then I wanna hear your description!

    • I see what you mean. However, I feel like jealousy is associated with a spiteful connotation. But if jealousy is just how you have defined then I am jealous of everyone I've met in some way...

I think that jealousy ultimately results in spite for most people, and this has caused them to be coupled as the same thing. Huh, I can't imagine being jealous of so many people... Mind you, I'm not an envious person at all. I'm fairly content with who I am.

    It's still jealousy though.

    • Yes, I just think that there is the wrong kind of connotation with it.
