Is it normal to dream about your ex?

I had a couple dreams about her but one stuck out. She's Navy reserve so that might explain part of the dream too. We were on a boat together with a bunch of sailors. All of the crew mates were hitting on her and I felt inadequate. In real life she's dated a few guys from her base. Later on I was talking to an older sailor who was trying to flirt with her earlier. Told him to stop and he went on this big spiel. One thing he said that stuck out was "If you love her go tell her" which he yelled. I then woke up and really wanted to talk to her but never did out of fear. We have been broken up for almost four years now.

is it normal to have these dreams about exes?

    I would say it's quit normal on occasion, but if it's a recurring dream after this long I would be more concerned. I tend to call those sort of dreams nightmares.
