Is it normal to doubt the hoopla about global warming?

I have to do a paper for a grad school course and picked global warming for the topic. I was all ready for the paper to be proof that humans caused it, or at least is making it loads worse. But after sorting through the media hype to get at the facts, I'm starting to change my mind. I'm now seeing that global warming has been going on since the last Ice Age and the ozone layer issue appears to be more of a natural phenomenon than primarily caused by humans. In fact, it appears the affect man has had on all this is just a drop in the bucket. And our ability to change the course of nature is futile.

I know I'll get all kinds of opinions, but does anyone out there have deeper knowledge in this area and wants to comment? Thanks.

Good news. Reality doesn't give a fuck whether you believe in it or not.

I wish people would stop calling it global warming. It confuses the reality.

I have seen weather patterns change in the past decade. Normal climate change is not this rapid.

Only someone who can't add two and two would ignore the many scientists who have shown that humans have at least had a hand in speeding up climate change.
The fact that you are using the term "global warming" instead of "climate change", shows that you have not delved very deeply into the subject, and that the research you are looking at is pretty out dated.
I can tell you for a fact that I have seen the effects of climate change first hand.

    • Thanks. Yes, that was part of my point. At first, I was focusing on "global warming" and discovered it's a much deeper issue after researching it. And I am looking at the newest studies. But those studies point to Mother Earth doing her own thing over eons far more than it being a function of human effect over 100 years. And for humans to think they can alter Earth's cyclical course in a material way is wishful thinking. And fortunately, the activist's dire predictions for the nearer future appear to be based on sets of aberrant data points over a short period of Earth's history and extrapolating to exaggerated predictions.

After listening to Freeman Dyson's view (theoretical physicist and mathematician), I think anthropogenic climate change is the biggest hoax ever perpetrated on human beings.

I say that as someone who is pro solar and renewable energy and anti nuclear.

    • Yep, I've read a few things by Dyson. He has been joined by many other independent researchers in the past few years to say the climate change issue has been totally twisted and over-hyped.

It sure is a hoax. One where Al Gore and all the save the planet wackos cash in

      • Unfortunately, I found this is probably the case, too. The data they point to is questionable, at best.

Yeah, I'm sure the 7 billion people on this planet haven't contributed to the change in our atmosphere in the slightest. I'm sure our planet is equipped to handle another 7 billion people and to hell with all other species and life forms, who cares about the oceans or forests or the release of toxic chemicals into the environment. Right, someone else can deal with and fix the disaster of a planet we're going to leave them with in the next 100,000 years, that is if we're still here. Hopefully by then we'll be colonizing and exploring other planets that would be able to support life because by then our planet will be unlivable.

If you haven't already, look into methane and it's association with global warming and the ozone layer. Look for very recent articles because massive methane vents have been more recently found on the ocean floor in many places and are spewing huge amounts of methane into the atmosphere everyday.

    • Thanks. I had seen that. It's one of several recent things studied that point to Earth's natural processes over eons having much more to do with climate change than anything modern man has done in the last 100 years.

It was once believed that man could never fly. Today space travel is possible. Why is it hard to believe our actions can't inadvertently affect the climate?

ozone aint got shit to do with it it blocks uv light from the sun and is depleted by chlorinated hydrocarbons breaking up in the high atmosphere

r12 been banned for decades anyways

global warmin maybe but the climates complex and always in flux and obama &friends tax in the ever lovin fuck outta everyone aint gonna solve shit

Climate change is real, you just have to look around and listen to the planet to see.

Are humans sorely 100% responsible for it? No, I believe not, but I do believe we contribute a major factor towards it.

You're quite able to believe that but I'm one who believes in it. For me, there's just too much evidence to deny climate change or overpopulation.

Remember when the term was global warming?
They had to change the term when facts showed otherwise...very convenient

Humans are almost certainly connected to the recent rise in atmospheric CO2 levels. However, conclusively correlating those and temperature is...trickier.

The planet changes to suit it's climate and inhabitants at the time. The planet has always changed temperature and condition. Obvious in the diverse natural nature & elemens that exsist. Human's contribute cetainly but the earth will ultimately decide what happens. When it's sick of us we will simply be wiped out. Maybe flooding will drown everyone & mother earth will begin all over again until we can use our brain. I don't imagine time will be a factor as it's made by humans to count how important they are. The monitary gain of some ex political people in the whole global warming dramitisation would deffinitely make me question it's truth. But you can only investigate & put youself in a position of self education to make your own informed decision.
