Is it normal to continue texting someone who doesn't like you back?

What's the worst thing you can do when someone you like doesn't want to hear from you? Backing off is the only healthy option but why do people keep trying? I've been pretty clear about how I feel and said that I don't correspond the way he wishes I would. He keeps starting communication with things he thinks I'll like and that's sweet but I'm not moved by it, so I usually respond politely but in a cold and distant manner. Is it a bad thing to do? Why is he still doing it when he knows I don't feel the same? I feel guilty about it and I can't understand why he puts himself through this. Is it hope that I'll change my mind?

    I totally understand and have experience of both the receiving and sending of texts in 2 very different situations. All I can say is that slowly ignoring/responding vaguely will eventually get the point across that you are not particularly interested. Prolonging it by being nice and receptive is just going to cause more heartache in the long run.

    Stop responding.

    It seems to be a cultural trend of the times, where so many people either are unable or don't want to take a hint. It's annoying.

    If push comes to shove, you can threaten to call the police if he doesn't desist. You don't have to actually do it. The threat alone should be enough to scare him off.

    Maybe he's just trying to be friendly? If he's trying to get you to like him, politely tell him to back off, and say he shouldn't be texting you so much.

    I don't get it. If you don't want someone to text you, why would you ever respond, or even read their texts? I can't think of an easier way to shut someone out of my life than not accepting any incoming communications. And that you text back? That's insanity, or you are just coming on here looking for....... I don't know what.

      She responds because it troubles her to disregard a fellow human being who is trying (albeit, possibly annoyingly) to be nice.

      Not everyone is a critical, emotionless asshole.

        I'm not the one asking for help and complaining. You obviously have no backbone and let people walk all over you just like this girl. You sound like an op a few days back that hates some utube videos but hasn't the intelligence not to watch them.
        I certainly don't need attention from you or anyone else; MY life is going great. That's what you really can't stomach, isn't it?

              Yeah, I've seen it ruin a lot of lives. I don't understand why anybody would want to do it. I've seen people peal their face off and think the government is poisoning them. It does not look like they are having fun.
