Is it normal to completely lose interest in an activity after losing someone?

My best friend passed away last year and it's still been pretty hard on me. She was like a sisiter to me and we had so many plans. One of our many favorite things to do together was swimming. It helped us in many different ways. We would easily spend 4-7 hours a day swimming in the summer.
After she passed away I've completely lost interest in swimming and I can't even go to our favorite swimming spot. Is this normal? And have you ever lost interest in something after you lost a loved one?

Firstly, I'm sorry for your loss. It's just the pits. I know. And yes, totally normal. Maybe one day you will swim again, but just see how it goes. You're a total stranger but I'm gonna go ahead and out a kiss anyway. x And a hug!

That's ok. It will get easier. Make your friend proud and live your life. They would want to see you smile. Just before my Grandpa died, he said to me, "When I'm gone, do not spend all your time being upset!" He said he wouldn't have that. And he told me to always try or I'll never know. : )

Of course that's normal. I've not really lost someone like that myself, but I have known people who have. I am sure doing something that you used to do together would bring back memories and make a person sad. But you can always remember all the good times you guys had too.

I don't know if this is the best thing to say, but I think maybe she'd want you to continue swimming because it's obviously something you love doing. If it's too painful though, then maybe you could find another form of exercise that you will like. Even if it's just temporary. Riding bicycles is a good one.

    • Yeah, I always think about the good times we had. And thank you for the suggestion, I might just start riding my bike again.

It's normal. I even do this after being dumped. I will avoid places where we went together.
