Is it normal to "brand" yourself?

So my dad owns a farm and his favorite way to release stress is to brand the cows. when I was in high school I learned the hard way that nothing good comes out of talking to a stressed out parent holding a hot branding iron. Long story short, I now have the family brand in my forearm.

During my senior year of HS there was this thug-ish kid at my school who had a "brand" lasered into his skin but he's the only person I know who chose to do that ( he told me of a bunch of people he knew who did it but I still dont believe him). Is this a normal thing? Do people actually do this?

    Are you talking about Scarification ? Cuz there are some people i know who have got that done.. I think it's kinda weird but i guess it's no different from a tattoo or piercing right?

    A no no weird but then tatoo's are somewhat weird: Yes what your Dad did was abuse especially your age: not normal: in saying all of above I have occassionaly wondered what if I was branded in my bottom I just wondered that is all likewise I saw alot of branding done to animals as a child

    What your dad did is really not normal at all and is child abuse. As for people doing it to themselves, I've never heard of that and personally I would classify it as self harm, but I classify a lot of things as self harm :P
