Is it normal to believe that life and dreams are neither real or fiction?

I'm starting to believe that "Life" (as well call it) and 'Dreams' (as we call those), are neither reality or fiction. They just are. Even though a dream or an event in 'reality' may not be real or staged, whether or not the thing is real is irrevalent. Since we can only base things off neurons and electrical signals in our brains, we have a very limited definition of what's "Real" and what's "Fake". As such, we cannot prove or disprove Life or Dreams.

The best way of thinking is to just claim neither of these real or fiction. They just are.

There's no such thing as death, life is only a dream and we are the imaginations of ourselves.

  • I get your point, but disagree with you're definition of real and fiction.

I would define reality as a shared perception. For example this text is real because both you and I can read it. If only you could perceive it, and I did not exist, it would be your imagination, but unless it is my imagination that you wrote this question, that is not the case.

Dreams however are questionable by some whether or not they are real. Personally I believe dreams are real, because I have experienced shared dreams where someone else has the same dream.

The difference is that we live in a linear timeline in the waking state with laws of physics. Dreams take place in a more chaotic environment where the same laws do not apply but different ones do, such as the air is often thicker and there is less gravity.

Not all dreams appear to be shared by people within this dimension, but that can be explained simply by questioning what the idea of self truly is. If dreams are a trip to other realities, that would mean there are multiple versions of the self, some which are inconsistent with the versions of them we know from here.

All we really are is whatever were thinking at any given moment. It's impossible to know if anything outside our perception exists which invalidates the shared perception theory of reality. Therefore dreams are no different than here other than the laws of physics are simply different.

'Life' has repeatable and consistent rules. Dreams do not.
