Is it normal to believe being on adderall has destroyed certain brain function

So probably when I was about 14 I was prescribed adderall, I was told I had ADD (still unsure if I agree) I just had trouble concentrating in school. But after being on it maybe for 2 yrs I decided the side effects were too extreme and a drain on me mentally and physically. So i stopped completely. But it just seems like I've never fully felt like myself or the same afterwards. Im not quite sure how to explain but its as if I've become slower with my thought process, like being on it for so long has killed or taken a toll on crucial aspects on thinking thoroughly like before.

I seriously doubt that an FDA approved drug permanently damaged any function in your brain; the drug companies are corrupt, but it's not legal to turn people into zombies yet. After 2 years, it's possible you just forgot what you felt like before you were taking it regularly- adolescence is also a wacky time with tons of hormones and chemicals bouncing around anyway.

I've been on and off Adderall since I was 13 and I'm almost 21, so that's 7 years with no negative ramifications on my capacity to function.

i plan to kill all the fatcats in the prescription drug business for inflicting harm and causing addiction when all the people really need is to smoke a bowl and chill.

Try taking hemp oil and Ginkgo Bilbao. You might also want to see a neurologist for an MRI, just to see if there's something that psychically causes your issues. Though, it might be best if you see the neurologist first before you start taking the hemp oil and the Ginkgo Bilbao.

Possibly some drugs will do that. If you were taking the hard core drugs from the institutions apparently they give people sedatives which puts that in a retarded state. I cant imagine how that would be good for your brain after prolonged use. As well as that if you were diagnosed with ADD/ADHD as a child its said that those type of medications have done such things as stunted growth, and said to damage children since they are still developing. So really these type of drugs should not be administered unless absolutely necessary and ADD/ADHD is something easily controlled by altering environment apposed to simply drugging up your children. When introduced to someone who does not have ADD/ADHD it has the affect of speed. So basically its like feeding people crack. Some medications have even cuase children to become suicidal when the point of them was fixing depression/ADD/ADHD. Also things like OCD is often misdiagnosed as ADD/ADHD.

I've been on Ritalin or Adderall on and off since I was about 13 too and haven't had (too many) negative side effects. I occasionally (all the time) twitch but still (don’t) maintain (any) control over my motor functions. And my higher brain functions (don’t exist) work like a charm. (At all.)

But seriously. I have been on and off both Ritalin and Adderall since I was 13. I get the occasional tremor in my hands but only when I have caffeine. And that's it for side effects. I agree with Don and whatshesaid. It sounds like you never established that baseline before you hit Temporary Hormone Induced Insanity (often referred to as adolescence). I got a non XR prescription and take it whenever I feel like I need it. But there are definite times, like DonQuixote said, where being mellowed out is great and other times when you NEED the butterflies and the jitters.

If it helps you sleep at night, think about how many people are on it - some people for most of their life - and there have been no re-evaluations of its effects on the human brain. So long as you take it as directed (most of the time) it's my belief that you're fine.

I've been on and off adderrall for years and have no similar side effects to anything you guys have mentioned.
I do, however, notice a difference in my powers of thought when I'm on or off it, and the only balance I've found with it (I fear I enjoy it too much sometimes) is that there's a time to be mellow and cool-headed and there's a time when a heightened sense of thought is necessary.

Try taking krill oil capsules. I got Dr. Mercolas. They are supposed to help increase your brain function, along with lots of other health benefits.
