Is it normal to believe

Is it normal to believe that 'common sense gun laws' in the US will really make a difference?
What is the government going to do, break into each and every domicile in the country and forcibly remove any firearms they can find?
Perhaps 30 years down the road, if they stop selling guns to everyone, there will be less available for that generation to use. Or there will be a huge black market for the damn things and the problem will be much worse because only those who actually intend to use them will pay the going rate.
I'd guesstimate 90% of all the firearms in the US sit untouched in some closet or drawer most of the time.
It's the penalty for the parents of children who get a hold of their guns and use them, either by accident or on purpose, that needs to change. Something like 20 years with no possibility of parole might do the trick.
How many of these nut jobs (the Columbine two, for instance) had parents who just ignored or didn't care enough to see something horrible coming? 20 years for mom and dad would be appropriate, in my opinion.
Irresponsible parenting is every bit as responsible for these horrible incidents as firearms, if not much more. They are 100% responsible when a toddler gets a hold of a parent's firearm and kills or injures.
Let's bring new legislation on point and target those truly responsible in most cases; the parents!
Your opinions are welcome.

It haa nothing to do with guns. Some muslim nutjob at a california campus stabbed multiple people yesterday. Should we ban knives? You can injure or kill someone with almost anything. The problem is sick people, not the weapons

Let ban people who own guns.
