Is it normal to be the most abusive towards those you are closest to?

A stranger could do virtually anything to me and I would forgive them. A family member could simply say maybe two words to me and I'm ready to blow a gasket. I feel the greatest anger and the greatest indignation towards those whom I am closest to. Is this normal?

I know it's cliché, "but familiarity breeds contempt".

  • Maybe it's because you are comfortable showing them that side of you. Don't take those people for granted though. They may get fed up with your shit if you take out your anger on them. Keep in mind that angry reactions are only appropriate when somebody has wronged you in a way most people would agree is wrong.

When I was going through health problems growing up I would unintentionally take the stress out on my family.

What's that quote? "Hold your friends close, and you're enemies closer."? What's the problem here?
