Is it normal to be so homesick?

My hometown is only 11 miles down the road but I miss it. It takes 50 minutes on the bus or a 3.45 hour walk to get there. I hate where I live now and the dread of going outside means I never go. When I do go, I don't want to leave and it sucks coming back here. I grew up there, lived there for 18 years and I miss my friends. Is it normal to be so homesick so close to home?

I have dreams about my childhood homes. I am now roughly 1500 miles from the Houston/Katy, Texas. I have a lot of weird ass dreams about two of the houses where I grew up.

I assume you don't have an automobile. Perhaps you should get yourself a bicycle?

I don't know about that, as I recall a lot of people back home use the term vehicle. Also one can simply just say car, or truck.

        • Down here in stralia we never say automobile. lol you Americans. Then ya got them United kingdom dudes that call them motors "honey get in the bloomen mota".

Back home you pronounce it "vea hea icle"

But thanks for telling me you can call a car, a car :)

Yes it is normal to miss home. The place i grew up. My childhood home is about 6 miles away. Been almost 30 years and i miss it.

Interestingly, the place we moved to back then was also about 6 miles away but for a kid on a bike, that is a stretch

Dude, it's 11 miles... That's like a 10 minute drive... You can be home anytime you want. If I lived so close to home, I'd throw the biggest party ever. I live 2000km away from home.

I only get to spend time with my parents during summer vacation, Christmas and Easter.

I'm sorry, but what you are saying is nonsense. You live very close to home. Anything under a 3 hour drive is close.

Sounds like they don't have a car, which is why they mentioned walking and taking the bus.

    • I have no family home or parents there anymore. I have nowhere to go unless friends are free. That town is my home, I can't afford to move and I just miss it.

I don't know your situation but maybe you could work towards moving back there? That might be a positive goal to have that would help

I moved out of my childhood home 34 years ago, and I still miss it.

Your horizons are too short. You need a car, and a job to pay for it.

I'm 10,000 miles away from my home town. I miss it sometimes. I think this is normal. You'll probably find the feeling subsides a bit as you get older, and it turns into fond memories instead of a desperate longing to be there.
