Is it normal to be overly chivalrous?

I've always been a proper dude at heart. I always allow women to go through the doorways first or help them with anything I can, for example carrying heavy objects to a certain place. I act like this to all women but I feel at times, people see me trying to be polite but they see me as being a doushe. Pardon my language, I don't think chivalry is dead but I feel as if it is out of place in modern times.

I really appreciate it when a man notices someone's difficulty in doing a task (be it man or woman) and helping them out. Keep that up!

Mate, I'm exactly the same & we are a rarity in this day & age.
The people who won't offer their seat on a bus to an old lady or pregnant woman are the douches, not you...

Unfortunately this won't get you far with girls as it's just not appreciated like it used to be.
But keep it up anyway, the world needs more good people!

Chivalry a great way to get friend zoned.

The way I see friendzone is that the way out is to try. Just convince for him/her to give it a shot and see where it goes you never know until you try.

The way out of the friend zone is to be a jerk. Cocky, funny, and don't give a fuck.

  • Can we get rid of this chivalry crap? Treat people equally, help people equally. I'm sick of people being praised for offering help to one gender while not doing the same for both genders.

"Well done! You're a good person! You treat a group of people better than the other!"
What is that shit? How can you appreciate chivalry only directed to your gender then get pissy when people do not treat you as an equal, or is it only ok to treat one group better than the other when you are that group?

    Ugh. People.

Well, I understand your point of view, but I assume back in the day, the women were considered more delicate than they are now. I'm not trying to defend, nor go against the idea of chivalry. Just making an assumption. Your point of view is appreciated. :)

It's called being a suck up in the hope of getting sex.

The reason guys like you get looked at as being a "doushe" is because people are not that stupid and can see through it.

I assumed someone would think that, but truth be told I could care less about sex. Though you may think it hard to believe such acts are not first on my mind.

Yet still I do understand where your getting at and how others would come to such a conclusion. Thank you.

I'm sure not every guy is like that as you said of yourself, but 90% of those like that are just suck up wankers.

It's not normal, but it should be. I'm glad there's still men out there like you :)

"it is out of place in modern times."

Indeed it is. Treat everyone the same and less people will see you as a "doushe."

But we're not all the same, that's the point.
Despite what society thinks I refuse to walk past a woman, elderly person, disabled person, hell, even a bloke who is clearly struggling to carry something (or whatever the case may be) when I can help out with almost no negative impact on me.

Just the same as if I saw a group of guys bashing one person, or a huge person bashing a little one I would step in. Too many people are worried only about themselves but at the same time would like to be helped if it was needed...

I know not all this is strictly chivalry but the principles are the same.....

Do you realize that you're categorizing women as the same as the handicapped here?

Do you realize that if that's what you took away from my post that you may be mentally handicapped yourself?
BTW according to your logic this would also make you a woman (which you may or may not actually be already)...

But on a serious note, why are you seemingly against a male helping a female (or anyone else) or acting chivalrous?

"Despite what society thinks I refuse to walk past a woman, elderly person, disabled person,"

It looks like you didn't read your own post. You definitely categorized women the same as the the disabled, and that is what I objected to in the first place. By all means, hold the door for someone in a wheelchair. If you're the first one into a place with a door that swings inward, holding it for the person behind you would be polite regardless of who is behind you.

& you totally missed the part where males were also included in the same sentence?
I can see what you mean but think you are nitpicking...

It is also my fault as I have gone off-topic, away from chivalry & more into being a "gentleman"...

Yeah, but the problem is feminist now lost their way entirely. They forgot why feminism began to begin with an now they are just getting carriedaway.
