Is it normal to be often slightly sad about past lovers that could of been?

I live out of state now, a lot of the connections i had with close friends and potential lovers have drifted apart.

I feel as though i often feel sad or nostalgic for what could of been

when i look back at some of the girls i had warmed up connections with, i feel as though some of them, especially one in particular was a huge opportunity lost.

everything is such a huge butterfly effect and its hard to say how things would've been, but i can easily see me and this girl i used to have such a close friendship with being madly in love.

I know she liked me a lot, and i just can't help but feel sad looking back at what seems as if is now a lost life path, a beautiful path for us both that could of unfolded into great happiness.

Idk.....Is it normal to feel this way sometimes? sad about what could of been with potential lovers?

    I think of the women I could have possibly dated back in 1976 when i hear the ELO song "telephone line" but then I remember I was only two years old at the time and not dating just yet.

    I look back with shame on some of the people I went out with.
    For me it is more of a depression, I was often told i was not in someone's league so when I settled, I got made fun of.

    I have those same feelings for several men that liked me when I was younger, but I didn't go out with them, and I don't know why. They were so my type, too!
