Is it normal to be obsessed with 9/11?

As far as I can remember, i've always found this tragedy incredibly interesting to study. I was born in 1999, so I obviously can't remember when it happened. But anyways, this whole thing perplexes me, it's so insane that it's hard to believe that it actually happened.

I remember I was in 6th grade in school that day. They turned on the TV for us to show us and the teacher next door was hysterically crying they said her parents worked in the world trade centers. They ended up being ok. I cant remember if they let us go home early or not but there wasnt any teaching after that. When I got home it was on literally every single channel. Its like tbe government took over the entire TV network and the same thing was on every channel. It was actually probably the most united the country has been in my lifetime. Everyone was rocking American flags on their cars and shit.

I was so young I couldnt comprehend how the terrorists didnt jump out of the plane with a parachute. Suicide bombing seemed really alien at that age. I was worried for a while after that that a plane would just fly through my house or something.

But I recall how the USA went from having really relaxed security everywhere to being very secure especially at airports and sporting arenas and what-not.

    • Is security a bit more relaxed now again? I don't live in America so I don't know. Maybe it's even more strict now than in 2002-2003.

No, it is a lot more secure now. Good luck getting through an airport. Delays can last hours. I think they tell you to arrive three hours early.

        • Whoa! Holy shit. In my country, they tell you to arrive 2 hours early, and I thought that was ridiculously long!

I was eating a bowl of cereal watching Bryant Gumbel & Katie Couric on the TODAY show. First they reported a plane accidentally hit one of the towers. Then on live TV the second plane hit the other tower. You suddenly realize this is no accident, we're under attack. After hearing about the plane in Pennsylvania & the one at the Pentagon a feeling of paranoia set in. Like "What's next?" A missile strike? An invading army?

Learning about what had happened in 2001/9/11 just feels like learning a piece of history, I remember when it was 2011 I remember my parents and most of my friends being like yay the Americans finally killed Osama Bin Laden but at the same time looking at how much damage there were when the World Trade Center and the Twin Towers were broken to bits.
