Is it normal to be mistaken as a nerd?

So I don't play modern video games (except for casual computer games that are free and are free. I ain't got cash for anything else), I don't read comics and I detest Manga/Anime/Whatever. I've only seen the X-Men movies once or twice, but I still like the characters and all that, but I can't get addicted to anything past 2010 really.
But people automatically think I'm a nerd. I'm smart and I dress in funny shirts (Cats and rainbows or Alpalcalypse kind of stuff), but I never really was a true nerd nerd. Im a fangirl to my own creations...
Does anyone else have my problem?

That depends on the definition of that term. Sounds more like a geek to me. And even that word doesen't make much sense anymore as pretty much EVERY young person is into those things now. You're not an outcast because you like Superheroes or video games. Everybody does.

People are always gonna label you, there's no real way to fight that. You can only stop caring about it and not do it yourself.

That's what happens when you're in middle school. Don't worry everything will get better when you grow up.

    • Yeah, in middle school I was an outcast because I came from a different state. In college I'm the kid that apparently fits in a little too well with the Pokemon Go etc. crowd. I'm not an outcast to the ever growing nerd population out there in comfy quirky style, but I am in conversation, and I just don't wanna get dragged into that particular lifestyle.

Everyone has different definitions and even though we don't admit it, we are quick to assume based on stereotypes. You dress in a quirky way and people assume you're a full on nerd.

Is being a nerd really a bad thing? They will eventually take over the world anyway.
