Is it normal to be getting sick of all these bullshit health claims about weed?

As a weed smoker it really pisses me off when I see people lying about it's effects. I'm sick of hearing about how it's a miracle drug that fixes everything and promotes brain cell growth. It's bullshit. Weed has very little medicinal value and never will. It doesn't help to heal cancer, it helps to deal with the symptoms of cancer. How can any government figure take a weed legalization seriously when all our reasons are based on bullshit. When you start making things up to prove your point, you immediately discredit anything accurate you have to say.
I use weed to relax after a long day and it doesn't have any adverse effects on me but I've seen many people who like it a little too much and start to base their lives around it. It's not a perfect drug and it has downsides just like every other drug in existence. That being said the reasons for it's illegality aren't completely valid as well. Will we ever get to the point where we can stop making up bullshit and admit that we want weed legalized because we want to be able to smoke a plant that has no adverse effects on anyone else, in the privacy of our own homes without fear of being arrested? Is that reason not valid enough?

Marijuanna does have medicinal effects. It's pointless to deny that. I have known many people who were anti-marijuanna and to have had to use marijuanna for cancer and it had helped them so much that they stopped taking the pain pills and nausea pills that doctors like to prescribe. I know for me that I have had problems with anorexia in the past and marijuanna has helped with that as well as back pain.

However, I think that a lot of the bullshit claims (brain cell growth? Come on) really hurt our case. We have to be real and reasonable here. Marijuanna isn't some kind of miracle drug, but for many, it's a hell of a lot better than taking pills and that needs to be taken into consideration. It's also a great way to relax. There, I said it. It's a fantastic way to relax. We have to keep it real.

I personally think that it certainly could have medicinal value like so many plants, but the problem is smoking it. Smoke is bad for the body, period! They should come up with oil or some other extract for the medicinal purpose .But that might take away the fun side effects right...

Regardless of whether it has any medical purposes weed should still be legal because people have a right to decide what they want or don't to put in their bodies.

    • My point exactly. But by feeling the need to make shit up we immediately remove any validity from anything accurate we have to say. The people who have the ability to change laws are old people set in their ways and they're not going to respond well to bullshit. I would bet money that they sit in their offices wondering why people feel the need to blatantly lie to them about what weed can and can't do. How could they possibly feel secure about a legalization in that situation.

You're right OP, there are many positives to weed that are cheapened by bogus medical claims. Hemp ethanol, hemp paper, getting stoned to make movies funny....

You should hate people who spread bullshit lies about marijuana, but not people telling the truth. For some reason marijuana actually does slow down the progression of cancer, and in some cases completely terminates it. Marijuana does have its few and specific medicinal uses and it does not have any negative effects when safely used. Because of this, many consider it a "god plant" in some manner, but some holding such opinions also exaggerate the truth or believe in an exaggerated truth themselves.

    • MARIJUANA DOES NOT SLOW DOWN OR PREVENT CANCER. holy fuck some people are stupid. You say it slows cancer down "for some reason" which means you obviously don't know what your talking about and have no evidence to back it up. No study has proven a significant connection between marijuana and cancer growth. This is like saying cream cheese slows down cancer. I could tell everyone I know that cream cheese slows cancer and at least one person would believe it and pass it on. Congrats. You are that person.

  • "As a weed smoker it really pisses me off when I see people lying about it's effects."

Same here, I smoke, but know it's obviously bad for you.

There's a reason they call it "dope"

    • THANK YOU. I wish more people could understand that everything isn't black and white. Anyone who smokes weed because it's good for them is completely insane. Weed is good in the sense that it can help you relax, it can help you think through things differently, it feels good and it can be a very social thing. It's bad in the sense that it's not all that healthy. Smoking in general can't be healthy.

Just because it doesn't need to have medical benefits to justify being legal, doesn't mean these benefits shouldn't be used in it's defense.
Especially when it's likely the opposition will make up false negative things about it. In other words, if you believe in legalization, they you are going to build a case as strong as possible, and that will inevitably include medical benefits.

I only was referring to real medical benefits. The false ones I wouldn't worry about much, initiated people can find out which ones are true and false, and ultimately it always tends to happen on both sides of debates like this, so it's not going away.

          • Very few are true though, I am less healthy for smoking weed, it's that simple.

Smoke of any kind can not be good for your lungs, obviously.

There is a difference between being healthy in general, like vegetables, and having health benefits in particular cases, like medicines.
But I don't really know where I stand of legalization.
I can see a point the OP was possibly trying to make, in that those trying to get legalization should take more time in pointing out the real reasons legalization is good, such as increasing personal freedom, and reducing the black market.

I get really sick of all these junkies who manage to bring up weed into every conversation. You want to get hooked? Fine. You want to damage your synapses? Fine, but just don't go telling everyone about it as if it where something to be proud of. Sure, under some circumstances it may be used for medicinal purposes. So can opiates and anabolic steroids, both of which most potheads despise.

Ok so stick with me on this one because it's long and explains a lot in my opinion.

We have gone though a similar courante like the prohibition on weed we find our selves in currently. A similar thing happened with alcohol awhile ago. It was originally legal( unlike weed), made illegal, legalized for medical use exclusively, and then it was legalized for recreational use. Alcohol had many different "medical" uses much like weed today in some states. But the reason this happens is that there are people who are completely against it, and legalization for recreational use right off the bat is to abrupt, hence the step of being legalized for medical use. Adulthood in some people opinions is may be lies or bull, it helps the opposition acclimate to their loss in this matter. It helps to make then feel there is a valid reason for its legalization.

It's not people's fault. They're just repeating what they've been taught: weed is bad. They don't look into it. If they did, they'd realize weed, just like most illegal drugs are much more safe than alcohol is. But just because the more developed countries would have an economic problem if weed or other soft drugs got legalized -since they don't produce them, like they do alcohol- they figured it'd just be easier to turn people against it. And they've been working on making people mindless slaves for a while so, "hey! it's actually working! Now let's badmouth peolpe who use drugs and we might just get away with completely ignoring all the researches that prove us wrong!"

Don't believe me? Look it up.

Very well, perhaps the government really has brainwashed us and stopped us from turning into junkies. If that is the case then I must thank them. Even if weed isn't really quite as bad as it is made out to be, can you give me one positive effect other than stress relief it could have on an already healthy person?

I'm not saying it's good for you, I'm saying people should have a choice about what's going in their body. Also, if you think the goverment is so concerned, why is alcohol still legal if researches have proved it to be far more dangerous than most drugs?

    • Yes, as I said, weed does treat head aches and symptoms of diseases but it doesn't actually fix anything. One could get the same effect from a tylenol or something. I'm not saying taking a pill is better but unless you have no job it's probably not a good idea to get baked every time you have a head ache.

It's all about the money. The health claims are a smoke screen. They are intentionally manipulated. It does have medicinal benefits, but they often get repeated by people who don't know what they are talking about, or have a different agenda in mind.

    • Actually I can agree with this. Weed does have some medicinal value in that it relieves pain and can help with appetite and other things. But I also agree with the fact that most people who brag about these facts either don't know what they are talking about or more likely have a different agenda in mind. How can we be taken seriously when most of the people spouting these facts really do just want to get high. It's really not hard for anyone with half a brain to see through the bullshit.
