Is it normal to be depressed every year at new years?

Nothing negative has ever occurred on New Years in the past to make me depressed, but for some reason the thought of have a good year come to an end makes me really sad and worried. I've felt this way during New Years for as long as I can remember. Anyone else have similar experiences or know why this could be? It's just a time of the year, why should it be affecting me this way?

Keep reminding yourself it's only an artifical date on a calendar, you end a year every night and start a new one every morning.

You shouldn't be pessimistic. You're depressed because the year ended. It's normal. But instead of thinking about the negative side of it, look on the bright side, you have 365 new days ahead of, that's 365 new oppurtunities to keep improving yourself day after day, and to add up joy and happiness to the previous year!!

I'm depressed on the New Year holiday too, and every other day of the year as well, for every year since I was born.

The New Year holiday is particularly bad though. Every year fills me with dread in anticipation of the inevitable and worsening depravity and horror we'll see in the coming year, and how our world will become even more disgusting and horrific than it already is.

I wonder what new wars will start, and how many bombings there will be, and how many people will get blown to bits, and how many dismembered limbs, decomposing corpses, and bloody pools we will see over 2016.

We can all look forward to pollution, bad health, terrorist attacks, war, disease, child abuse, mass shootings, stupidity, death, depression, depravity and grief until death finally ends our misery, which will probably be at the hands of ISIS.

    Fantastic.

I've felt that sad not depressed for years after Christmas. January was always a sad month, ever since I was little and saw all the Christmas trees throw out. I felt that way until February when I cheered up for Valentine's Day.

You shouldn't think about a good year coming to an end, but about another good year starting full of new possibilities. Remember it's an other year and you're still alive!
