Is it normal to be ashamed of your country/origins?

When I'm online I always hide my country of origin or just won't disclose it. I'm not proud of my country and I wish I was from somewhere else. I find that my relatives who have moved to another country are very proud of where they're from. I know you can't change your roots but get very upset sometimes.

    Hiding some details is better than lying about them. If you're from a different place than the majority chances are they'll see you as a kind of representative of that place, even if you don't strongly identify with it yourself. Nothing wrong with it.

    I want to say normal but I really don't see how anyone can be ashamed of their country. Everyone's history isn't perfect. Have some pride :) what country is this btw?

    I suppose I understand, there are some countries I would not like to be from.
    As it stands I'm a proud Brit :)
