Is it normal to avoid people?

Is it normal to avoid socializing? I don't have social anxiety, I actually talk with people all the time at work, and I even enjoy some small talk now and then. But I've been avoiding getting personal with others for more than a year. I don't want to be around people if I don't have to.
I did have a few disappointments in the past, and now I feel apathetic when it comes to relationships. Friends too. I don't feel like talking to anyone really. I've never been this asocial, but I can't force myself to bother.

While I do love a select few, I prefer my own company too.

Same here, but I believe (in my life) it's because of previous, bad experiences... [It does depend on the person] Has anything traumatic happened with you?

I do but I have social anxiety so it's pretty understandable then. You just sound introverted. It's indeed normal to be introverted.

Drugs and alcohol really makes it more comfortable to be social, but then you have another set of problems. 😕
