Is it normal to almost have gay sex with your best friend?, well, former

It was a school-day and I'm guessing Friday. Me and my friends wanted to have the early-weekend fun that most male friends do at around 16-18 yrs of age. I am 23 now but I have not got over what happened.
Not to run outarail, I have to the point. So we played soccer after school, got tired and went back home after collecting cows (a norm for teen boys in village parts of Zulu S.A) after the summer horizons faded away the red colour of the sun's reflections. At around 7 in the evening we had planned to get together as friends and so we did, after about 4 hours of chatting and fun, we decided to have a sleep over at on friend's house. Before falling, asleep this one friend asked to me to shift places with the other one who was sleeping next to him and without any awkward feeling we did.
At the back of my mind I never thought the other friends got any deeper with the thought of why that was happenind.
Either way, after some time of darkness-chatting and some felt a litle drowsiness sneeking, even me, I felt a hand rubbing gently and softly on my back and before I could be shocked, some good rush of heart caught me. A few seconds later he breathed on my neck, rubbed his whole body on me. No one could feel him move but me(he was sleeping on the far end of the sponge). I got aroused by all that, who wouldn't, and I began responding to every move he made but slowly because they would hear or feel what was going on.
Fast forward to the point where he tried to get in me but cudnt because I had never done it before.
So I jacked him of till he c***. Then I was my turn, cudnt penetrate him(he also had never been...) so he jacked me off till I c***.
In 3 mnths time he and I were asked to go and sleep over at his heighbour's house since they were leaving for an afternoon church service. You'd think it all went down there but wait.... It was really hot that night so we had to sleep on our boxers but i had full briefs on. It started as sum late night games on the bed and later slowed down an got a little sweaty-slow. On both occasions, we never spoke about it the day after or any other time.
After high school, he went to another city I went to my own to persue my studies. We have each other's contacts and even on Whasapp but we never talked about it.
More than 8 yrs down the line we never got to talk or even spend atleast 4 hrs and I still think about what happend and I really need to know why he did that because I might have feelings for him. Although the feelings I have for my beautiful girlfriend can't be compared with any feelings I have for anyone.
Id like to know from him because he still is my friend and he doesn't talk to me much and I think he's avoiding me. Why did he lead me on and leave me hanging? Thats the only question I have.
