Is it normal this is not worth a job?

I have 10 guard certificates, a guard card, CPR certificate, ROP small business certificate, 3 months of customer service, Type 45 words per minute, Know all the basic programs and good with little kids.I had my resume looked over by a job specialist and applied to 300 different places. Is there something else I should be putting on my resume that would help? I get told to just keep trying but its been years and not really getting anything. What else am I suppose to have for a job?

A personality. I review resumes frequently for a crap position. And the skills mean little if you don't have a personality, something that makes you stand out.

Also, 45 wpm is really slow.

    • Yeah I pretty sure I cant do that with an online application. How do I add personality to a resume?

You do that with the cover letter.

Maybe it's nothing to do with your covering letter or your resume, maybe there just aren't enough jobs to go round?

With C.V and resumes - what I find is that people assume that the more information you put on it the better. It isn't necessarily true.

Sometimes it is best to state what is relevant to the job you're applying for. For example, let's say you're applying for a position of a supermarket cashier.

Emphasise customer service (was it face to face and/or telephone based), cash handling skills on your CV.

    Here's some ideas.
Personalise every job application. You need a personalised cover letter for every job you apply for. Find out the persons name, position etc. Don't just send out the same resume to 500 places, that doesn't cut it and will probably never get you a job.
Get a professional resume writer to help you out.

Well something is wrong somewhere along the line.

The sole aim of cover letters and resumes is to get you an interview at which you can impress them enough to give you a job.

Are you getting interviews? If yes, there must be something in your manner, style or something else is not going right at the interview. If so, get practice with someone / a professional at doing interviews.

If you are not getting interviews, then either your cover letter, resume, or both suck in some way. That shit needs to be fixed.

        • No I never get interviews, that is the issue. If I was getting interviews I am sure I would be getting jobs. I can do interviews I just not landing any. I have enough practice. I had a job specialist fix them though. You think they did a bad job? I got one but there was multiple interviews for that job and I never made it to the last interview.

If you are not getting interviews that tells me without a doubt that there is something wrong with your cover letter, your resume or both. You need help from someone that understands that process.

Are they telling you to personalise every cover letter and resume for the job?

Or research books on the subject at your library. There are plenty of good books on the subject.

            • But a job specialist do that for a living. So who do I ask to help me? They understand how the process work dont they? They told me to just keep putting them in and eventually someone will call back but I been doing that and I dont even get interviews.

I've heard of black listing before, not sure if it's true though.

Are you following up after you send in a resume?

It makes a huge difference, a phone call or a visit to speak with the manager, even just to introduce yourself can show that you're motivated and set you apart from other applicants. Like howie said, personality makes a huge difference, and human interaction is always better than just a paper application.

    • I am but generally they give me attitude and ask why the hell I feel the need to bother them. Also when I go in person they say "Oh its no use putting in a paper copy since we throw those out just fill one out online".
