Is it normal the comment section is nothing but a popularity contest now?

Lately this site has not only become a ghost town due to the lack of content, but also because of the lack of users. Most questions have one ore two answers, some of theme even remain unanswered.
And i noticed, the older regular users are only answering to questions that have the potential of getting a lot of attention so that their comments will get more exposure. All these people care about is improving their virtual status and gain positive notoriety by posing as social justice freaks who claim to care about everyone, but then they ignore posts from people who really need help. They only focus on questions that are candidates for "most popular of the day" or on posts from other users leaving the site so they can hypocritically express their regret, posting the obligatory sucking up comment and getting their daily dose of thumbs up.It's like they're only communicating with the other regulars cheering each other on with serious ass kissing sessions.

The only people who seem to be dedicated to helping others here are some of the newer users who didn't show signs of being attention whores yet.

is it normal i blame this "clique" of older users for the downfall of this site? As far as i'm concerned, i don't think it will harm this place if all these fairies with their condescending attitudes left for good.

My serious posts are generally restricted to topics where I feel I can contribute to the topic. This is either due to having experience with the topic, having studied it or having an interest in it. If I were to post on whatever topic I felt like, far too many of my comments would just be me talking out my ass and patronizing the OP.

I take the advice I give here seriously enough to try to avoid that possibility and if my sentiments aren't appreciated well then shit, nothing new in my world.

IIN that the comment section is nothing but a popularity contest? Well, yeah. The whole comment karma system is pretty much a painted target for popularity contests.

Because people ask stupid questions like about sugar daddy's or if it's normal not to find Marilyn Monroe attractive.

I don't do this. I could give two shits about my popularity on this site. I answer what I want because I feel like saying something. I often ignore the really popular nonsensical questions. But the problem is that the real questions are hard to find. And I'm not going to spend all day looking for a sincere question to answer.

Just yesterday I posted a few stories of my own that got a lot of attention and very few of these clique conversations. I wasn't asking for help, just stimulating conversation. And some people gave me that. And if you are who I think you are, you didn't make a peep.

  • I usually don't look past the first page anymore because they get drained out fast now that moderation only cares about banning trolls anymore instead of filtering out bad posts.

I read most of them but only comment when I have something to say. most posts I have no comment on unless it makes me think of something that I relate to or have an opinion or joke to tell.

It looks like people gang up to thumbs down those they don't like. They take advantage of karma

If I was going to respond to this post, I would say this.

I've seen plenty of regulars answer questions honestly and try to help genuine posts. As for who they answer, well it's just easier to jump to certain posts and not dig through what's been asked and answered. It wouldn't have to be that bad if people used the search bar. Nobody likes to repeat themselves constantly.
The regulars are what keep IIN in business, really. Like any other business. If you don't like it, become a regular and try to change it.

And half of that 50% are best advised not to seek answers on the internet and to go talk to a professional or a doctor.

    • Because you called me an asshole.

And you asserted that lots of people are ass-kissers, posers, fairies, freaks, attention whores, suck-ups and hypocrites who only care about popularity. That is behaviour befitting an asshole. If you can't deal with being called an asshole, be less of an asshole.

You moan incessantly about people who thumb down without commenting. But you delete comments you don't like, which is clearly a much passive-aggressive thing to do than just thumbing down. If anyone's a hypocrite, you are.
