Is it normal that when i talk to people i try not to make the upset?

When I talk to people and they ask me a question, I'd say pretty much anything in order to avoid confrontation. I don't want to say things to people that would hurt their feelings or make them mad, but in doing so I end up making myself look odd because I take so long replying to them because I'm trying to find a response that won't offend them.

For the most part, I am pretty blunt with people, but there are certain situations, mostly when I'm talking to friends and relatives, where I try my hardest not to offend them because I don't want to make them angry and yell at me or something.

For example, someone may ask If a dress makes them look fat and it does make them look fat, but I know saying that would hurt there feelings, so I stand there for like 5 minutes trying to come up with a reasonable answer that won't offend them. Usually, I come to the conclusion that no matter what I say it will be taken the wrong way, so I end up just saying I don't know to most questions.

That's silly. Just speak what's on your mind. Don't be afraid.

Were you abused as a child, physically, verbally, and/or emotionally?

So don't do this because essentially you're lying your way out of confrontation. If there is something that you know someone should hear or needs to know or asks you, you should be honest, polite but honest.
