Is it normal that when i get a dreadful sickness or disease i want euthanasia?

Sad thought? Get over it. We all go eventually. Note I said "when" not "if". I think it is cruel to make humans suffer diseases when the techniques exist to put someone into a deep anesthetic sleep then pull the plug to achieve permanent relief. Its imperfect, but it is better than nature's cruel default option. I've been under surgery before. It felt fantastic. I suffered nothing. I guess I had a good anesthesiologist. :-)

I want this option. Yes, one would take the finality with utmost seriousness. It would be a relief to know you can do this vs. having to either tolerate agony or attempt a DIY suicide using the old fashioned methods. That's ridiculous.

Yes, I do fear deterioration of health. I've seen it in others. Worse, I have studied plenty about medical/physiology and what not. There are some health problems not worth their trouble. Its not pretty. I wouldn't wish ill health on any soul out there.

Normal or not?

It is normal to not want to suffer during a sickness that you may not get through. My dad recently died from rectal cancer and it was horrible to watch him go through that. Even the chemo wasn't helping.
It's also normal to want that so that family members don't suffer watching you suffer.

    You should read 'The Postmortals'.

I strongly believe that everyone should have this option.

    Google Dignitas, assisted dying.

There's a very moving documentary about it on youtube, by Terry Pratchett. It was upsetting to me to watch this guy die, I cant imagine ever being in a position where I'd have to make that choice. It would be awful.

But yes, this is hardly an unheard of thing. Many have campaigned for this right and there are places where it is legal.

  • Often being really sick ends in recovery. I have had swine flu, gastroitis, strep (many times) various flus and illnesses and misc chronic healh problems. I wouldn't compare it to people I have known with much more severe illness like bone cancer which looked miserable to go through. If I were dying I would probably want to get it over with although I have very mixed feelings about death. I am not sure if it will be relaxing and peaceful or horrifying.
