Is it normal that when a topic goes 404 there is still a link to it?

So these topics keep going from there to 404 and back and then 404 and back but the links to them are still there? Like the pajamas one I am sure everyone sees on the first page its been there then 404 so many times in the last few days I don't understand whats going on. If you know the real real answer please reply in the comments!
