Is it normal that this made me so angry and still makes me angry today?
There's been a number of posts about cyber bullying today and it made me think of something that I was so angry and upset about.
Three or four years ago there was a special on TV about a little black kid who got bullied and committed suicide. At the end of the show, they gave the family a house, a ton of money, and free college tuition to all the kids in the family.
This made me more angry and upset than anything else in recent memory. It is basically advocating suicide. Someone who's depressed would look at that program and say, "well if I kill myself at least everyone will feel sorry for my family and give them lots of free stuff."
There was no mention in the program at all for what you should do if you know someone is suicidal. No time devoted to where you can turn for help if you are feeling depressed and suicidal. Instead all they did was focus on blaming the bully and how it MADE this little kid kill himself.
What is the moral takeaway from something like this? Suicidal people are utterly helpless and bullies are 100% responsible for their deaths? Suicides should be rewarded by giving millions of dollars to the rest of the family? This is just beyond awful.
