Is it normal that spinach makes parts of my mouth burn or itch?

I have a lot of allergies, but they never tested me for spinach. I know certain foods (e.g., pineapple) can be irritating even if you don't have an allergy, but is spinach one of them?

My lips itch and get a little bit swollen. No other allergy symptoms, though.

That is not normal. I'd recommend stop eating spinach straight away and go get yourself checked. Last thing you want is the itchiness and swelling to turn in anaphylactic shock.

      Fräu Doktor korrekt ist.

Allergies can develop in adulthood and get stronger over time...btw, anaphylaxis involves swelling of your airways and an inability to breathe...but I think you can still get scratch tests for allergies at the doctors office to confirm.

At least your not fucking allergic to pizza.

      • Wow, I'm sorry I missed this whole thread!

I learned about "oral allergy syndrome." It's only raw spinach that does it to me, so it's probably an allergy to birch pollen. I did not test positive for a spinach allergy, and I eat cooked spinach all the time with no problem.

Thanks for your input, and concern. Pretty sure it's not an actual spinach allergy. Thank GOD, because I already can't eat crab as an adult, which sucks ass.

I accept your gift with great pleasure Frau Douche. I have never seen one of these before and thoroughly look forward to studying it.

Are you thoroughly cleaning the spinach before you cook it? Spinach is often grown in sand. The sand is hard to get out and will stay in the green if you don't clean it properly.

Sounds like an allergy. I love spinach and eat a lot of it and I have never had a reaction like that.

I feel sorry for you. "I'm strong to the finish, 'cause I eats me Spinach, I'm Popeye the sailor man! (toot, toot)" Ask my wife, if you don't believe me.
