Is it normal that so many people use microwave ovens so often?

They are lead-lined right? So that the microwaves cant escape...great. Oh except for the front part thats see-through where you can see your food, that's not lead-lined. That can't be totally safe then can it?

Also is it good for your food to be warmed up this way? I'm not talking about the food itself, microwave meals obviously are a problem too. I mean just re-heating something.

Microwaves are probably dangerous, still use them sometime/ regularly 8
I think they are fine.(I am gullible and accept government standards) 10
They are def dangerous, I never/hardly ever use one 3
They are great,I love them.(I dont eat properly, dont cook, dont care) 10
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Microwave ovens are NOT, repeat, NOT lead lined, nor are they in any way dangerous.
You sound like all those hysterical idiots in the 1950's who freaked out when microwave ovens first came out.
You are ignorant of the facts and promoting absolute BUNK.
If you can read, then I suggest you go on this handy new thing called the internet and GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!
One last thing; why would the GOVERNMENT (which government anyway, the one in Kenya or the one in Iceland?) have any interest at all in promoting lies about microwave ovens? What is their motive?
    Time to grow up.

You're parenthetic voting options so obviously show your bias.

If you're going to ask a question, try to openly ask it and not just search for the answer you want to hear.

    • I don't really care what people think. It was sort of a joke. I think what I think and thats it.

Quit asking questions you don't want the answer to, you knob.

You notice how the window is covered with a screen or mesh? That wouldn't be there without a good reason. The holes are small enough that microwaves are blocked, like a Faraday cage.

My coworker just explained the concept of a Faraday cage to me. He suggested the train acted like one and that was why it made my tv wonky...random, I know. But his explanation makes the OP sound a little slow.

Kind of amazing how often that happens, isn't it? I mean, learning a new word or concept and then seeing/hearing it again within a day or two. I makes my wonder how many words that we don't understand just sail by without us noticing.

    • If thats so safe, why don't they put that see-through mesh the whole way round? Coz too many microwaves will slip out, thats why, dumbass.

        Why would you want that?

I really want to stop using my microwave...I don't have the oven microwave but sometimes I get so busy I can't wait and I'm really hungry so the microwave becomes my ideal solution. Most of the time I heat up my food on the stove though 'cause its said to be a carcinogen and I don't want to be a statistic.

    • The microwave oven is a microwave. Is that confusing? I can edit it.

One thing people do wrong is opening the microwave door while it's running and not waiting for at least 30 seconds.

As soon as you open the door, the unit stops producing microwaves. It is automatic and infallible. The waiting 30 seconds is because the food and dish can be very hot, not because of the microwaves.

I'm sure there are videos of people using microwave detectors with them.

Opening the door without hitting stop is really an issue? And did you mean waiting 30 sec to open the door, or cooking stuff a min of 30sec (I just woke up, so my tardism is on high)?

I know you're always good with the science-y stuff.

I'm not sure if it's dangerous or not but it was just something I remember my physics lecturer going on about in college.

Ahh. I have always just opened it, and was scolded by a friend for it, so this being the second time in my life that I've heard it, I wondered.
